Dr. Rex D. Bacarra
Dr. Rex D. Bacarra has two PhDs under his belt: A Ph.D. Degree in Management Research with concentration in Organizational Development and Human Resource Management at King’s College London U.K. and another Ph.D. in Philosophy at De La Salle University, Manila;
He is McGraw-Hill Education’s Digital Faculty Consultant for Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA), a former Dean of General Education at the American College of Dubai, and currently teaches at Curtin University Dubai (a globally-ranked Australian University) specializing in Global Leadership, Culture and Ethics, Strategic Human Resource, Mgt. and Organizational Behavior, and Philosophy, among others. and American University in the Emirates, York St. John Business School, and Geneva Business School.
He a Dakilang Bayani (Noble Hero) Awardee, the highest award given to an overseas Filipino by the Department of Foreign Affairs through the Philippine Consulate for excellence in the field and for his service to the community; chosen as one of the 100 Most Influential Filipinos in the Gulf by Illustrado Magazine for 5 years in a row, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and the Legacy Edition of 2020; ABS-CBN TFC wrote a story about his transformative influence on the students and was shown in the program Balitang Global in the segment “Bida Ka!”; Interviewed by Ms. Karen Davila for her segment “Overseas Filipino Winners” for Filipino excellence abroad; Khaleej Times, a Dubai-based newspaper, profiled his story in an article entitled, “Dr. Rex Bacarra: An Extraordinary Inspirer for Students”; profiled and interviewed by Abu Dhabi TV (ADTV) for excellence in the field; awarded with INNOVATOR OF THE YEAR-EDUCATION during the XAGA Awards by Xpedition Magazine, 2019; awarded with EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR by The Filipino Times, 2019; awarded as the “Outstanding Teacher of the Year” by The United Federation of the Filipino American Educators in New York, USA, August 2020; the Digital Faculty Consultant of McGraw-Hill for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), which is a first for a Filipino in the Middle East (In August 2017 and 2018, he was twice invited to an all-expense trip to London, U.K. to share his expertise and was introduced to McGraw-Hill’s future of academic resources); the Kabayan of the Month awardee by Kabayan Weekly; featured in a 240-page book “Behind the Domes of Majestic Mosques: The Untold Success Stories of Filipinos in the United Arab Emirates” that chronicled the lives of the Filipino people who are making a difference in their field of expertise; included in the portrait exhibit of Paris-based Filipino Artist at Dusit Thani, Dubai as one of the “Most Empowering Filipinos in the UAE”; and Gulf News cited him as one the favorite and memorable teachers based on the interview conducted to former students. He is also the co-founder of the creative design company, On Distinctive Designs (ODD), that aims to uplift the Filipino’s mindset and He is a speaker, as he regularly speaks to communities and organizations on leadership quality of creative outputs to global standards. and other relevant topics. His speaking engagements include local and international audiences, the recent of which was an invitation by the United Nations and Heartfulness Organization as a speaker during the International Day of Peace, Dubai, UAE. He was also invited to give a leadership talk to the Joint Aviation Command of the UAE military in Abu Dhabi, and as a jury in the Global Pitch Competition consisting of several countries upon the invitation of the UAE’s Ministry of Economy.
He is a writer, as he writes for Illustrado magazine. His works generally center on analysis and critical provocations. His opinions on varied issue are also a constant fixture in Khaleej Times, Gulf Today, Kabayan Weekly, The Filipino Times, and the Philippine-based, The Philippine Daily Inquirer. To date, he is the only professor in the history of the American College of Dubai to be afforded with standing ovations by the multicultural students during the graduation rites in 2016, 2017, and 2018 as expressions of gratitude and excellence in teaching.
He has a strong sense of service for the community. He leads the projects helping the distressed and abused workers of POLO OWWA, Dubai, while also giving free seminars and workshops on several topics of interest.
